Essential Omega3 IFOS™ is Yamamoto Nutrition's Omega 3-rich fish oil supplement, titrated at 36% EPA and 24% DHA and IFOS™ certified, designed to provide the body with the highest quality fatty acids derived from fish oil. Fish oil is rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids, such as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), essential nutrients to support the health of the heart, joints, brain and eyes.

Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids, and are defined as essential because the body is unable to produce them and consequently we must consume them through the diet (from sources such as fish, seafood, nuts, seeds and supplements).

Regular intake of purified fish oil, a source of EPA and DHA, offers different health benefits:

  • DHA contributes to maintaining normal brain function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg DHA) - 2 softgels per day;

  • DHA contributes to maintaining normal visual function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg DHA) - 2 softgels per day;

  • EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg EPA and 250 mg DHA) - 2 softgels per day;

  • EPA and DHA contribute to maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 2 g EPA and DHA) - 4 softgels per day;

  • EPA and DHA help maintain normal blood pressure (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 3 g EPA and DHA) - 5 softgels per day.

Recent studies have shown that a diet rich in Omega-3 is also helpful in countering the onset of cardiovascular disease. In fact, these good fats contribute to heart health because they reduce certain risk factors such as high triglyceride levels and blood pressure.

In addition, fish oil intake rich in omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) can provide joint support, because these reduce inflammation and joint pain, improving overall joint health, and can also support skin health, because EPA and DHA can help prevent acne, inflammation and premature ageing.

But what is fish oil? And where does it come from?
Fish oil is an oil rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids obtained from fatty fish such as sardines, mackerel and salmon.
Its production process requires two essential steps: the extraction of the oil from the source material and its purification. In addition to Omega-3 fatty acids, there are a varying number of compounds inside the oil, such as hydrocarbons, long-chain alcohols, waxes and esters that can affect the properties of fish oil. Purification allows all unwanted substances to be removed, but must ensure that the desired components are not damaged. The final product is a concentrated source of long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids to provide high doses of EPA and DHA.

Sports and Omega-3 Supplementing with good fats from the Omega-3 series is also useful for those who regularly engage in physical activity. They have a powerful antioxidant action that counteracts the formation of free radicals, which are formed in the body as a result of cell metabolism. In addition, sports performance, reaction time and cognitive ability, as well as lung function, can also benefit from Omega-3 intake. Recovery is also affected by Omega-3 consumption: one study suggests that Omega-3 fatty acids may also help athletes recover better and faster following injury.

What does IFOS™ certification mean?
The best known Quality Certification is the one represented by the IFOS™ (International Fish Oil Standards) label. IFOS™ is basically an analysis protocol issued by an independent body (Nutrasource Diagnostic inc.) based at the University of Guelph in Canada, which has the most expensive and advanced technology needed to test the quality of Omega 3.

Based on the results of the analyses, IFOS™ assigns a quality score to Omega 3 and publishes the results of the tests conducted in its laboratories in its database (consumer reports).
Today, hundreds of Omega 3 supplements are available on the market, but very few manage to obtain IFOS™ certification. An IFOS™-certified product is therefore a guarantee of absolute, class-leading quality.

Obtaining IFOS™ certification guarantees the maximum purity and quality on the market. Launched in 2004, IFOS™ is Nutrasource's best-known certification, a symbol of transparency and quality throughout the dietary supplement world. IFOS™ provides a way for companies to test (and certify) their products to the world's highest standards of quality, safety and purity, and then display the full test results online for all consumers to see.

The IFOS database can be accessed by anyone at any time, so it is always possible to check whether or not the brand of the supplement we are interested in is present, and also whether the production batch of the Omega 3 pack we are about to buy is present.
If the batch is present in the IFOS™ database, we can be sure that we have purchased a pure, uncontaminated supplement without any risk to our health. All IFOS™ certified products can be seen here:

What does Friend of The Sea certification mean? Our Essential OMEGA3 is certified Friend Of The Sea, one of the leading international schemes for the certification of seafood products and which guarantees the origin of raw materials from both fisheries and aquaculture. Friend Of The Sea imposes several criteria for sustainable fishing and aquaculture, based on the principles of environmental respect, conservation and sustainable exploitation of marine resources, selective fishing methods and energy saving. Friend of the Sea certification aims to contribute to the health of the oceans through the promotion of sustainable fishing practices, verifying that companies participating in the programme practice selective fishing techniques and reduce the impact of their operations on the ecosystem**, guaranteeing sustainable and traceable products to end consumers.

Our Advice

Our advice Essential OMEGA3 can be taken at any time of day, but it is advisable to take it during meals to improve the absorption of fish oil in the body. This is because omega-3 fatty acids are fat-soluble and can be better absorbed by the body when taken together with dietary fats.

However, if you have digestive problems or experience side effects such as acid reflux or gastrointestinal discomfort, it may be helpful to take the supplement with your main meal or a light meal, perhaps even dividing your daily softgel intake into separate times (between lunch and dinner).

Below is the recommended intake per number of softgels and benefits:

  • 2 softgels per day to maintain normal brain function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg DHA);

  • 2 softgels per day to help maintain normal visual function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg DHA);

  • 2 softgels per day to help maintain normal heart function (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 250 mg EPA and 250 mg DHA);

  • 4 softgels a day for maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 2 g EPA and DHA);

  • 5 sfoftgels per day for maintaining normal blood pressure (the beneficial effect is achieved with a daily dose of 3 g EPA and DHA).

Frequent doubts

What is the recommended intake of omega-3 fatty acids for an adult? The recommended intake of omega-3 fatty acids for adults may vary according to individual needs, age, gender and health status. However, in general, the World Health Organisation** (WHO) recommends an intake of at least 250-500 mg EPA and DHA per day for adults.

Do I have to take all the daily softgels together? It is not necessary to take all the softgels at the same time, but it is advisable to distribute them throughout the day, preferably with meals**. For example, you can take 2 softgels in the morning and 2 in the evening, or 1 softgel with each main meal.
