RETARD M.A.T.R.I.S.® Lipoic acid is a lipoic acid dietary supplement that, thanks to microencapsulation technology in a 'MATRIS®' (Multiform Administration Timed Release Ingredients System) matrix, optimises bioavailability over 8 hours thereby reducing the number of intakes and masking the unpleasant taste.
RETARD M.A.T.R.I.S.® Lipoic acid uses patented Matris Retard®, which enhances absorption and bioavailability, but above all promotes sustained, controlled release over time.
RETARD M.A.T.R.I.S.® Lipoic acid is the Yamamoto Nutrition supplement containing Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), a molecule with a *natural antioxidant action that is found in the body and in certain foods such as spinach, broccoli and brewer's yeast. ALA is considered a potent antioxidant because it is able to neutralise both water-soluble and fat-soluble free radicals and therefore protects cells from various types of damage. One of the main benefits of taking ALA is the improvement it brings in insulin sensitivity and the consequent reduction in blood sugar levels. These properties make it extremely effective in reducing insulin resistance, a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is involved in mitochondrial energy metabolism and offers several health benefits. ALA can protect cells from oxidative stress, improve insulin sensitivity, prevent neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases and reduce inflammation.
In addition, due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, ALA protects the brain from oxidative stress and helps reduce LDL ('bad') cholesterol levels and increase HDL ('good') cholesterol, to promote heart and arterial health. ALA can also prevent skin ageing by reducing UV damage to the skin and improving the skin’s appearance and texture.
Several studies have shown that ALA improves insulin sensitivity, making it particularly useful for women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). ALA promotes the absorption of glucose in the blood, ensuring greater blood glucose control and proper sugar metabolism function even in obese individuals or those with diabetes.
ALA is a fat-soluble molecule with a particularly potent antioxidant action due to its ability to regenerate other water- and fat-soluble molecules with antioxidant activity, such as reduced glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E and coenzyme Q10, thereby boosting their effects.
In short, ALA is a useful nutritional factor in the treatment of metabolic disorders, predisposition for diabetes, insulin resistance and PCOS. Its action can be enhanced by the combined intake of other nutritional factors such as inositol, NAC (N-Acetylcysteine) and Omega-3.
What does M.A.T.R.I.S® microencapsulation technology mean? How is it different from standard alpha lipoic acid?**
MATRIS®, short for Multiform Administration Timed Release Ingredients System, is the microencapsulation technology that optimises the bioavailability of Lipoic Acid over 8 hours, thereby reducing the number of intakes, and masks the unpleasant taste.
RETARD M.A.T.R.I.S.® Lipoic acid differs from other forms of ALA in that it benefits from the Matris Retard® patent, which increases its absorption and bioavailability, and ensures controlled release of the active substance over time.

Directions and intake
Dissolve the content of 1 sachet in 200 ml of water and take once a day.
Our Advice
Unlike most fat-soluble compounds, alpha lipoic acid does not require the presence of dietary fat to be properly absorbed, because it can make use of specific transporters.
For this reason it can be taken either on a full or empty stomach, although scientific research has shown good results when taken at main meals. We therefore recommend taking the daily dose with food.
Frequently asked questions
Is Alpha Lipoic Acid also useful for weight loss?
Given its positive role in blood glucose management, it was thought that ALA could also affect the slimming process.
Although this effect is not a direct consequence of ALA intake, but due to its beneficial impact on the insulin mechanism, lipoic acid can exert a weight-loss-promoting effect.
